FUB? Friends of University of Burao
(also known as FUB) is a non-profit organization
whose objective is to support the University of Burao
(or UB). UB is a newly-established university, which was
founded on 19 June 2004 in Burao, the second largest
city in the Republic of Somaliland. In spite of its recent
birth, it has seen an enermous expansion. It has, for example,
started with four colleges, namely the College of Veterinary Medicine,
the College of Education, the College of Management and Finance,
and the College of Islamic Studies.
Nonetheless, while it is still in the neonatal stage, it has added vital
educational organs such as the Teacher Training Center (TTC), the
Somali Studies Center (SSC), and Environmental Studies Center (ESC)
to its fast growing body.
Moreover, within that short time and after being launched in borrowed permises
first, it has now acquired two campuses. The first campus (or campus A) is
where the university is housed now. It was the premises of the College of Range
Management which were badly damaged during the war against Siad Barre's government.
As that college became defunct after the war, the permises were given to UB, which
rehabilitated soem of the old buildings and added new one to it. The second campus
(or campus B) is being built on a 15 hectre compound that is located in the northeastern
suburbs of the city. Part of the first unit of this campus is now under construction; and the
construction is financed by a Kuwaiti charity organization.
With the exception of some help from other quarters such as the government of Somaliland,
international NGO, most of the assistance that goes into the development of the university
comes from FUB; and this expansion and growth would not have come about without efforts
and hardwork of this organization. Still, there is more to be done; and we need your help. So
join FUB now, build UB, and be part of its present, its history, and its future. |

and its increasing needs, the FUB organization, serving
in a voluntary capacity, has come to a decision to step
in and solicit new and emerging donors for grants and permanent

FUB Selects new standing committee
We, the establishing committee of the Friends of the University of Burao (FUB), hereby inform the general public that FUB organization has recently selected the Executive Board/Standing Committee of the new Board of Directors for its works of altruistic nature for the University of Burao. The new committee members will hold office for two consecutive years as per FUB bylaws.
And the newly appointed committee members are:
1. Dr. Abdisalan Yassin, Saudi Arabia, chairperson
2. Mr. Ibrahim Barre Nur, UAE, Vice-chairperson
3. Madame Zeinab Mohamed Ajib, Qatar, Secretary
4. Mr. Faysal Elmi, UK, Treasurer
5. Prof. Hussain Hassan Gulaid, Norway, Educational Representative
6. Dr. Saad Ali Shire, UK, Public Relations Representative.
